Chapter 1

                      Village

School had just ended, and twin sisters Lía and Aríana were walking home. The school is surrounded by beautiful green grass and bright sunset colored flowers. The school itself is a big, brick building with slippery moss coating the roof. There is a gigantic playground on the left side of the building with a slide that was the size of a 10 story building, and swings that you buckle into and they swing you all around. Lía and Aríana walk through the plaza, the smooth marble feels flat and cold against their feet. The pond in the center of the plaza was glimmering on this sunny day. They walk past the big museum where the new magic exhibit just opened. The village is surrounded by trees, so you don’t even feel like you are 500 feet in the air.

“Let’s go,” Aríana said.

Lía and Aríana finally got tired of walking so slowly through the village, so they sprinted all the way home. They troup across the wobbly bridge and open their bright blue front door. They look at each other, and without having to talk, they know what to do. They each grab a bright, yellow banana from the kitchen and dash into their shared room. Aríana opened the tiny, fluorescent blue box tucked under Aríana’s bed and jumped into it. This was the portal leading to their very own secret room they had created with magic. Their friend had a wand she said they could use whenever and wherever they needed it.

“Weeeeee,” Aríana yelled.

They come crashing down onto a beanbag in a big room with two chairs, a television ,and a corner with a fluffy rug and big, comfy pillows. They hop up and walk over to the fluffy rug and big, comfy pillows. They sit down and start planning their escape into the woods. Now, the village was very critical of their longingness to see the dark forest and explore the many wonders of the incredible outside world, so Lía and Aríana had started planning their escape in secret. Lía and Aríana had already tried to tell the villagers that they should explore the woods to build their courage and resilience, but everybody discouraged them and told them that the village was perfect and that it was all they needed. They didn’t agree with the village being perfect and they badly wanted to venture out to the woods. They didn’t want to live in the dark forest, they simply wanted to explore it. They opened their notebook that had all the information of their plans to escape. It had everything from secret routes, to a guide of how you chop down trees, to a guide of how to read a secret code. After they checked that they had everything they needed in their notebook, they started their journal entry in the planning section of the  notebook, Lía writing her own entry, and Aríana writing hers.

Lía - Hi, I’m Lía. Happy Sunday.  I am 14 years old and I really want to explore the world. (Especially the dark forest!) I have a twin sister named Aríana. I love this village so much, I really do, but I want to see things other than the tops of trees and the same buildings over and over. I hope that you and I both get to explore the world in our own ways. Sending you over to my sis.

Peace,

Lía Martínez

Aríana - Hey bros. My name is Aríana and I am 14 years old. My twin is Lía and we live in a beautiful but also a little boring town. We are trying to plot an escape to the dark forest. I hope it succeeds! We love, love, love this town but we want to explore. Everyone else doesn’t want us to but since this civilization is run by kids, I guess we are sort of like grown-ups to the rest of the villagers. Because they are all like five. Lía and I will check back later.

See ya,

Aríana Martínez

PS: You can obviously see that I am so much cooler then Lía will ever be, right?

They shut the notebook and high five each other. They jump back into the portal and teleport back to their room. They dashed to the kitchen and prepared a quick dinner of rice and salmon. The sisters quickly shoved dinner in their mouths and then went back to their bedroom. They hopped into their beds and snuggled into the soft blankets and put their heads deep into their pillows.

“Goodnight,” Lía says sleepily.

“G’night,” Aríana replies.
