Chapter 7: Into The Woods

Into The Woods

The twins woke up in a daze. Today was Saturday, the day! They grabbed their biggest backpack and walked to the kitchen. Just then Lía had an idea!

“Maybe we could use Maddi’s wand to extend our backpack and use it in the forest,” Lía said. Aríana thought this was a great idea, so they walked to Maddi’s house. Maddi answered the door and was eager to hear their plan. They told her they didn’t have much time so they needed to ask her something. When they told her the plan she quickly agreed just as the clock struck 11:30.

They ran home and quickly packed everything they needed. They were heading out the door just as the school bell rang, signaling it was time to go.

They headed toward the forest entrance and peeked into the deep, dark woods. They slowly headed into the woods and looked around. There were trees all around that felt to them like they were trapped. They walked further into the treacherous woods and the deeper they went, the less sunlight they could see, until finally, it was pitch black. They lit a lantern they had packed and looked around. They could only see 10 feet around them and they kept thinking they heard voices whispering. They walked deeper into the woods, looking all around them for anything unusual, and all they saw was trees and more trees. As they walked away from the village, they could hear less talking, until it was silent except for their scared, quiet breathing.

They heard thunder and stopped. They heard the pitter, patter of rain before they felt it. It was now pouring. The few rainstorms they had always had heavy rain. They kept walking. They were soaked and scared, they were also really cold, so they huddled up by a tree under the thin blanket they had. Then, they tried to pitch their tent while staying warm. They enchanted the tent so that it would not open to just anyone, it would only open with their touch. They walked inside and started to make it cozy. They wanted to forget about the horrors that were outside. They set up their tent with fluffy blankets and pillows.

They walked back outside and put a spell on the tent so that it would follow them wherever they went, and it would be their safehouse if they ran into any mythological beasts. They went deeper into the forest and finally decided that it was time to go into the tent for the day.

They opened the tent and walked in. It was super weird walking into the tent and trying to pretend they were back home. Outside of the tent, there was some action. A bush shook, and a big, slimy monster came out of nowhere. The monster had a big nose, and a face that looked like it had been pounded in the face a million times. He had a big belly and wart infested legs. He was the ugliest thing in the woods, and he knew it. The monster looked at the tent and sniffed.

“I smell humans,” he taunted quietly. He walked over to the tent and picked it up easily. He walked into the woods, making sure he didn’t wake the humans inside the little tent.
