Crime Rates In Massachusetts

Have you ever thought about the crime rate between the big city of Boston and the much more suburban small city of Newton? Even if you haven’t, it is interesting to learn about.

First, the full level of all crime in Newton is very low, at 7.69%, while the level in Boston is moderate, at 46.26%. To get more specific, in the realm of the using and dealing drugs, the level in Boston is  56.60%, the highest score of all of the realms, and the level in Newton is 13.46, way lower than Boston.

This doesn’t mean that Boston is an unsafe place, but it is interesting to look at all of the data together. Even though Newton is also a city, it is much more town-like.

This also might have something to do with the amount of people(the population). The population of Newton is about 87,300(in 2022), while the population of Boston is about 650,700(in 2022). This is a HUGE difference in the amount of people. There are many different people in Boston, which could mean a higher rate of crime, versus less people in Newton.

It is very important to note that Boston, even with these crime rates, is one of the safest cities in the country. In the fall, there were only 14 murders in Boston, a historic low.

In conclusion, it is interesting to learn about crime rates in different states to find the safest place to live.
